Your baby will develop a white, greasy and protective layer on its skin. This is called vernix caseosas and it is made up of dead skin cells and oil from your baby’s glands. The waxy later protects your baby against harmful effects of amniotic fluid. After the birth, you will still see baby covered in the vernix. The little one also develops sucking reflex and is now able to put his thumb in the mouth.
